Director
Charles H. Blevins
Charles Blevins is an ”up-by-the-boot-straps” entrepreneur and investor. Born and raised in Oklahoma, he joined the U.S. Army after high school, served in the regular Army in Korea and then in the reserve, and retired after a total of 32 years.
When he left active duty, he began raising cattle—a childhood dream. He bought a 350-acre ranch and enrolled in night school to learn accounting and business administration. He got a job as bookkeeper and credit manager for one of the biggest and oldest retail stores in McAlester, Okla.
To help a friend, he invested $2000 in a 15-bed nursing home. When the friend gave up in less than a year, he took over the business and turned it into a profitable venture. In 1965 when the State Health Dept of Oklahoma started closing down residential-type homes, he built a 60-bed facility. In six months, he added 20 more beds. Then he built another 55-bed home. In 1970, he sold those homes for $1.1 million. Over the years, he has continued to build nursing homes, all self-financed, and then sell them at a considerable profit.
He now owns over $1 million in real estate in McAlester. He continues to invest in projects that interest him.
